STEPAN SOULTANIAN, MAZOTOS (CYPRUS)

Stepan Soultanian was born in Cyprus in 1965 but moved to London at an early age.

He started playing the violin at seven years old and was fifteen when he met a local violin repairer. The sight of all the tools and the smell in the workshop fascinated him so much that he decided to make this craft his career.

He studied violin making and repairing at the Newark School of Violin Making and whilst in his 3rd year was awarded a certificate of distinction for craftsmanship for his first cello at the Facta Britannia Violin Making Competition in London.

After graduating in 1986, Stepan began working internationally, specifically in the U.K., Japan, Belgium and Greece, gaining valuable experience from handling and repairing countless old master instruments.

Visually and acoustically Stepan’s new work is of an exceptionally high standard; this and his skill at repairing and restoration have earned him an international reputation and praise from many dealers and players, including Salvatore Accardo, Leonidas Kavakos and Levon Chilingirian.

He is now based in Cyprus but continues to travel extensively and enjoys teaching students who come to him in order to benefit from his experience.
